1. Birdsleuth Project Accepting Members!
 
What is it? A fun and informative project for 4-H members in 3-8th grade that includes, bird hikes, playing games/doing activities, learning to identify local birds, improving bird habitats, using technology to collect bird data.

2. Citizenship Washington Focus Registration Open- Deadline December 12th
 
What is CWF? Citizenship Washington Focus, an educational conference offered at the National 4-H Center near Washington, D.C, gives youth the opportunity to explore, develop, and refine the civic engagement skills they need in order to become outstanding leaders. Delegates have the option of traveling to Washington, D.C., and participating in Heritage Trail which is a 7 day program hosted by the National 4-H Conference Center. Delegates may extend their travel 3 additional days through the Global Journey program which includes visits to Gettysburg, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Citizenship Washington Focus is a year-long program, beginning with registration in December and online orientation in March.  County delegations are expected to complete a study guide and prepare thoroughly for their Citizenship Washington Focus program.  During their participation in the program, all county delegations develop and carry out a service-learning plan of action to address a current issue in their community.  A final report on their service project is due September 15 of the year they travel.

There are 2 trip options listed below:

Heritage Trail CWF only :  June 28 to July 4, 2015 price $2799
The 7 day program to Washington, D.C.

Road to Democracy:  June 28 to July 7, 2015 price $3449
The 10 day program to Washington, D.C., Gettysburg, Philadelphia and Baltimore!

Who can go? Delegates must be at least 15 years of age by time of travel to participate in Citizenship Washington Focus.
 
How do I apply?: Remember that if you would like to attend and be eligible for council funding you Must to follow the steps below:
 
***Remember that council has a $2500 lifetime limit per youth member for educational conferences including CalFocus ($645) and Citizenship Washington Focus. $2500 will not completely cover the cost of this trip and members interested in participating are responsible for the difference between the total trip cost and councils per member limit.***

1. Follow this link http://4h.ucanr.edu/4-H_Events/WF/ to complete the Youth Registration (remember to pint a copy!)

2. Complete the Travel Funding Application attached below

3. Write a check payable to the San Benito County 4-H Council for one of the following amounts:

a. $299.00- The cost of the Hertiage Trail Trip minus the Council Limit: $2799-$2500

b. $949.00-The cost of the Road to Democracy Trip minus the Council Limit: $3449-$2500

c. $944.00-The cost of the Hertiage Trail Trip minus the Council Limit and Cost of Previous CalFocus Trip: $2799-$1855

d. $1594.00- The cost of the Road to Democracy Trip minus the Council Limit: $3449-$1855

4. Turn in The above forms and check to the office by December 12th, 2014 before 5pm

***If you are an approved adult volunteer and would like to volunteer as a chaperone please contact the office before registering- Council is not responsible for the travel/registration fees of any adult that does not contact the office before registering***

3. Sonoma County Youth Rabbit Challenge Information

1. Showmanship

      (You can bring your own showmanship rabbit or we will have a few loaner rabbits) 

2. Breed ID

3. Judging

4. Written test

The age groups are (Age as of January 1 st):

Junior: (9-11)

Intermediate: (12-13)

Senior: (14+)

4. LCORT Health Coordinator Needed!

The LCORT Event Coordinator has asked me to pass on the attached application and position description. If you have medical training and would be interested in helping at this amazing event for youth please check out the documents below!

Applications are due December 12th, 2014- Please remember to contact the office before submitting your application as it does require a staff endorsement.

5. Stanislaus County Snow Camp Invitation

Each year Stanislaus County Hi 4-H invites high school age members from other counties to join them at our Snow/Winter Camp held at Camp Sylvester in Pinecrest, CA (just down the hill a bit from Dodge Ridge Ski Area).  Camp will be from Jan 1 to 4, 2015 this year.  Below I have attached the letter that has more information, approximate costs, enrollment forms, and 2 copies of the medical form.

*If you are going to put a group together please remember that you must provide an adult chaperone and follow 4-H transportation policy which can be found at the following link http://4h.ucanr.edu/Resources/Policies/Chapter11/

**This is an event that members are welcome to attend but is not covered by San Benito County Council Funding.

6. 4-H Farm Clean-Up Days 

November 15 is the next farm work day!

Farm requests are available online or in the 4-H office. Farm is available for all fairs. Work days start at 9:00am –12:00pm. It is mandatory that everyone that uses the farm, works at least 6 hours at the farm. Please bring weed eaters or mowers (gas operated, we have no electricity), protective gear, water or something you want to drink, a snack or sack lunch, sunscreen, gloves, racks, hoes or shovels and wear proper shoes. If you are bringing a weed eater or a mower, please RSVP to Susan Dike at 831- 801-5882 as soon as possible. Thank you for your help.

7. Holiday Dinner Information and Flyer

The All-Stars are busily planning Holiday Dinner and they have given me the attached flyer to send to you- So save the date and RSVP to your Club Leader!

When: Sunday December 7th at 5pm

Where: Veterans Building 

What to Bring: Clubs provide a gift basket to be used as a door prize and table decorations- Families are asked to bring an unused toy or can of food to be donated to the community as well as a desert to share!

Please remember to RSVP to Your Club Leader by next Wednesday November 19th! Club Leaders should share this information with the All-Stars via email at so that we can plan on the correct number of tables and make sure there is food for everyone!

8. Fair Eligibility Deadline in December!

The enrollment deadline to be eligible to show livestock in the 2014 fairs will be Friday, December 18. This means that if you would like to add a livestock project your enrollment update form is due to the office with the required signatures by 5pm, please turn in the originals.
