The California 4-H Management Board is proud to announce the California 4-H Youth Summits! Youth summits are three day weekend leadership conferences hosted in multiple locations throughout the state. Youth are welcome to participate in any Summit. It's not required to attend the event hosted in your own area. Each Youth Summit is transitioning from a sectional leadership conference: We Help Youth (WHY), Creating a Leader (CAL), Leadership Conference of Regional Teens (LCORT), and the Teen Involvement Conference (TIC).

 

Note: Ages for all Summits are age by 12/31/2017.

Special Note to San Benito County 4-H Families:

The 4-H San Benito County Council will NOT be paying your snow camp registration.  Your family will be responsible for the snow camp registration fees. 

Hosted by:

Santa Cruz County 4-H Snow Camp Committee 

Join 4-Her's from Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties, February 16th to 20th at 4-H Snow Camp.

4-H Snow Camp is a semi-structured, family-oriented winter camp. Spend the weekend at 4-H Snow Camp at South Shore Lake Tahoe, at Nevada 4-H Camp located at the bottom of Kingsbury Grade, in Stateline, Nevada.

4-H Snow Camp : 

  • Cost: $150.00 per adult or member and siblings under 5 are free
  • Cost Includes: 4 days, 3 nights lodging and meals at Nevada 4-H Camp in Stateline, Nevada
  • Check in: 2:00pm-9:00pm Friday
  • Check out: 9:00am Monday with a sack lunch for the ride home.
  • Hot Breakfast, packed Lunch, Dinner 
  • Heated Mess Hall
  • Heated Cabins 
  • Daytime advantages and activities you may participate in on your own:
    • Ski and snowboarding at Heavenly Valley
    • Ice Skating, rock climbing in town at the main shopping mall
    • Sled at nearby hills
    • Build a snowman at camp
    • Sled run
    • Play board games and card games in mess hall 
    • Craft actives in mess hall 
    • Only friendly snowball fights in designated roped off areas. All 4-H members and families entering this designed area agree to play a friendly snowball game! Remember to respect each other. 

Come back to camp for hot cocoa, dinner and evening activities. Heated cabins and hot showers, too!

 

Camp does not provide linens or bedding – make sure to bring sleeping bags, pillows and towels.

Campers encouraged to bring a box of hot cocoa, tea or cider packets and a dozen cookies to share.

*Attendance at snow camp is a privilege. All adults must have attended on-line leader orientation training and have been fingerprinted prior to attending camp. Campers MUST be in good standing in their clubs and MUST abide by the 4-H Code of Conduct while at Snow Camp.

All children under the age of 5 attending 4-H snow camp are NOT covered by the 4-H insurance, since they are not registered 4-H members.  You must be a register 4-H adult leader or member to be covered by 4-H insurance.

Camp chores will include restroom, cabin and common area cleanup. Chores will be assigned by random drawing upon arrival at camp on Friday night.

Directions… take 680, 101 and 80 to Hwy 50  in Sacramento. Go East on Hwy 50 up over the Sierras to Lake Tahoe. 104 miles from Sacramento, turn left onto the lake shore part of Hwy 50 and continue on to Nevada. Turn left on 4-H Camp Road, right after the Golf Course. 256 miles, 4 hours, 38 minutes.

Western Regional Leaders Forum

California is home to the 2018 Western Region Leaders' Forum!

March 1-4, 2018 in San Diego, CA.

The Western Region Leaders' Forum (WRLF) is a leadership conference for volunteers and staff of the 4-H Western Region. The 13 states in the region are Alaska, Alberta, (Canada) Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The California 4-H Camping Conference is held every other year. Don't miss this great learning opportunity to make the best camps better!

John Jorgenson, director at Camp Tawingo
John Jorgenson is a Director at Camp Tawingo in Ontario, Canada. Camp Tawingo was founded in 1961 and comprises a summer camp, outdoor center, private school, and camping publications.

 

John has provided leadership nationally and internationally for over 40 years, at professional conferences, in publications and through workshops. John is President of the International Campting Fellowship - a worldwide organization dedicated to bringing together the world of outdoor experience. He has presented to camping and outdoor education groups across the United States, Canada, Australia, Greece, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, Nigeria, Colombia, Mongolia, Turkey, Mexico, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia.

Archery Certification

A training course for the 4-H archery discipline will be offered as a workshop at the 2018 California 4-H Camping Conference. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified as archery volunteers and can instruct archery club projects and camp programs. Please note that the certification course will require attendance for two days so you will not be able to participate in other conference workshops.

Register for the archery course when you register for the conference. Early registration is due by February 15, 2018. Regular registration is from February 16 to March 23, 2018. Registration includes meals, lodging, and course materials.

Citizenship Washington Focus is an educational conference for youth ages 15 to 19. Delegates must be at least 15 years of age by time of travel to participate. Hosted at the National 4-H Center near Washington, D.C, it gives youth the opportunity to explore, develop, and refine the civic engagement skills they need in order to become outstanding leaders.

Through tours in the living classroom of Washington, D.C. and hands-on educational workshops, youth will learn about the history of our nation, the leaders who have shaped it, and how they can apply their enhanced leadership and citizenship skills to issues in their own community.

This 8-day trip is packed with educational adventure as participants tour our nation’s Capital and learn how our national government works.  Trip includes a pre-conference day of site seeing plus attendance at National 4-H’s Citizenship Washington Focus Conference which includes touring many of the major sites in the National Mall.  Cost includes transportation (air and ground), housing and most meals plus access to the tour sites.

SERVICE LEARNING INFORMATION 

Delegates for Washington Focus events are able to utilize the new skills they have learned by carrying out a plan of action in their local community. Each delegate will carry out a pre-approved service learning project and complete a 4-H Delivers story upon completion of their service learning project. Tools to help youth and volunteer leaders in planning and implementing a plan are: 

Your pre-approval will need to be submitted, approved and project complete before December 31 of the year you participate in a Washington Focus trip. Once you've identified your issue and begun your planning, complete your pre-approval application and submit it.

It is highly recommended that you use the Service Learning Planning Guide to aid in your planning process. Your 4-H Delivers story will need to be submitted before certificates of completion and pins are awarded.

About California 4-H State Field Day

The annual California 4-H State Field Day is the largest and most comprehensive educational event for 4-H youth members and 4-H volunteer educators. Since 2002, 4-H'ers from throughout the state have come together to compete at the state level for various competitions. This family-friendly event is for all ages to participate. 

Each contest and activity is coordinated by 4-H volunteers and youth. Event coordination and facility support is provided by the State 4-H Office.

The goal of the event is to provide a culminating experience for 4-H members in their year-long 4-H education in public speaking, textiles, plant sciences, photography, interview skills, and entomology.

About Leadership Washington Focus (LWF)

 

LWF

 

Leadership Washington Focus (LWF) is a National 4-H leadership conference for youth ages 12-14.Youth can exchange ideas, practice respect, and form friendships with other 4-H'ers from across the nation. 

Who can attend

Youth ages 12 to 14. Delegates must be at least 12 years of age by time of travel to participate. You do not have to be a current 4-H member to participate. Please contact us at ca4hwashingtonfocus@ucanr.edu if you are not a current 4-H member.

About the trip and Conference

This 5-day trip is packed with educational adventure as participants tour our nation’s Capital and learn life-changing leadership skills in a conference setting. The program will take place at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center, just one mile from the Washington, D.C. border.

At this conference 4-H delegates will:

  • Build confidence in their ability to motivate and direct others in meaningful action
  • Practice effective communication with others through group discussion and public speaking
  • Work with others to create and accomplish goals
  • Develop an understanding of their own personal leadership style
  • Experience hands-on learning using the historical backdrop of Washington, D.C.

Participants are immersed in the culture and history of our nation through on-site workshops at D.C.’s most spectacular sights.

Destinations include, but are not limited to:

  • The White House and Lafayette Park
  • Ford's Theatre
  • The National Archives
  • Presidential and war monuments and memorials
  • Smithsonian museums
  • and more!

Parade:

Completed the following float forms and provide copies:

  • Driver of float, trailer, and/or vehicle
  • Owner of vehicle (if different than driver)

  • Vehicle and/or trailer registrations
  • Completed parade registration form – see note below

If your 4-H club is only walking in the parade turn in the parade registration form to the 4-H office.

Leaders/ Adults must submit all paperwork at least 3 weeks prior to parade.  The 4-H office will process your request for 4-H insurance through the UCANR.  Your 4-H club must have 4-H insurance in place to participate in the parade.  All forms are to be submitted to 4-H office by email jkgomer@ucanr.edu or in person.

 Note: Volunteers cannot sign a contract on behalf of the University.  They can register for the event, but all documents requiring a release of liability needs to come to the office for a signature by the County Director.
