Pomology

Pomology

The Pomology Program conducts applied research to solve local problems and extends useful, technical research-based information to fruit and nut producers in the Central Coast region of California. The Farm Advisor provides local subject matter leadership and expertise to determine and evaluate grower problems. Emphasis is placed on the four major tree crops - walnuts, apples, apricots and cherries. General information is also provided on minor commercial crops (avocados, citrus, prunes, pears, etc.) as well as home gardens.

Major issues include improvement of fruit and nut production practices, conventional and organic pest management, varieties and rootstocks, alternative crops, profitability, small farms, education of new growers and agricultural education of the public.
