1. November Council Meeting Reminder and Agenda Draft

The next council meeting is Monday November 24th at 7pm in the Veterans Memorial Building

I have attached the draft agenda for the meeting- Take a look and let me know by Monday at 12pm if there are any additions or corrections.

Please remember that council is open to any 4-H member and is actually a great way to stay informed of county wide activities and our decision making process. Stop by and check it out!

2.Committee Review Meeting this Weekend

So sorry for the late notice but the end of the month just snuck up on me and I realize that we need to meet before council on Monday!

When: Sunday November 23rd from 2-4 PM

Where: The Office at 3228 Southside Rd. Hollister Ca 95023

Who: Senior Members and Adult Volunteers 

What/Purpose: The committee system in our program is responsible for event planning, outreach, and policy recommendations to council. This meeting is to discuss how to revamp the committee system to ensure the continuation of our events and smooth operation of our programs. The aim of the review is to develop a plan to present to Council on Monday November 24th that can be put to a vote. Examples of proposed alterations include: Requiring Participation from all clubs on all committees and/or combining committees.  

If you are interested in coming to the meeting please RSVP to me via phone or email by Friday at 5pm so that I know how many participants to expect. 

I have attached the current committee list below that includes committee descriptions so that you may come prepared with suggestions.

3. Birdsleuth Project Accepting Members!
 
What is it? A fun and informative project for 4-H members in 3-8th grade that includes, bird hikes, playing games/doing activities, learning to identify local birds, improving bird habitats, using technology to collect bird data.

4. Citizenship Washington Focus Registration Open- Deadline December 12th
 
What is CWF? Citizenship Washington Focus, an educational conference offered at the National 4-H Center near Washington, D.C, gives youth the opportunity to explore, develop, and refine the civic engagement skills they need in order to become outstanding leaders. Delegates have the option of traveling to Washington, D.C., and participating in Heritage Trail which is a 7 day program hosted by the National 4-H Conference Center. Delegates may extend their travel 3 additional days through theGlobal Journey program which includes visits to Gettysburg, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Citizenship Washington Focus is a year-long program, beginning with registration in December and online orientation in March.  County delegations are expected to complete a study guide and prepare thoroughly for their Citizenship Washington Focus program.  During their participation in the program, all county delegations develop and carry out a service-learning plan of action to address a current issue in their community.  A final report on their service project is due September 15 of the year they travel.

There are 2 trip options listed below:

Heritage Trail CWF only :  June 28 to July 4, 2015 price $2799
The 7 day program to Washington, D.C.

Road to Democracy:  June 28 to July 7, 2015 price $3449
The 10 day program to Washington, D.C., Gettysburg, Philadelphia and Baltimore!

Who can go? Delegates must be at least 15 years of age by time of travel to participate in Citizenship Washington Focus.
 
How do I apply?: Remember that if you would like to attend and be eligible for council funding you Must to follow the steps below:
 
***Remember that council has a $2500 lifetime limit per youth member for educational conferences including CalFocus ($645) and Citizenship Washington Focus. $2500 will not completely cover the cost of this trip and members interested in participating are responsible for the difference between the total trip cost and councils per member limit.***

1. Follow this link http://4h.ucanr.edu/4-H_Events/WF/ to complete the Youth Registration (remember to pint a copy!)

2. Complete the Travel Funding Application attached below 

3. Attend Council Meeting to ask for funding approval and share your Revolution of Responsibility Project idea

4. Write a check payable to the San Benito County 4-H Council for one of the following amounts:

a. $299.00- The cost of the Hertiage Trail Trip minus the Council Limit: $2799-$2500

b. $949.00-The cost of the Road to Democracy Trip minus the Council Limit: $3449-$2500

c. $944.00-The cost of the Hertiage Trail Trip minus the Council Limit and Cost of Previous CalFocus Trip: $2799-$1855

d. $1594.00- The cost of the Road to Democracy Trip minus the Council Limit: $3449-$1855

4. Turn in The above forms and check to the office by December 12th, 2014 before 5pm

***If you are an approved adult volunteer and would like to volunteer as a chaperone please contact the office before registering- Council is not responsible for the travel/registration fees of any adult that does not contact the office before registering***

5. LCORT Health Coordinator Needed!

The LCORT Event Coordinator has asked me to pass on the attached application and position description. If you have medical training and would be interested in helping at this amazing event for youth please check out the documents below!

Applications are due December 12th, 2014- Please remember to contact the office before submitting your application as it does require a staff endorsement.

6. Stanislaus County Snow Camp Invitation

Each year Stanislaus County Hi 4-H invites high school age members from other counties to join them at our Snow/Winter Camp held at Camp Sylvester in Pinecrest, CA (just down the hill a bit from Dodge Ridge Ski Area).  Camp will be from Jan 1 to 4, 2015 this year.  Below I have attached the letter that has more information, approximate costs, enrollment forms, and 2 copies of the medical form.

*If you are going to put a group together please remember that you must provide an adult chaperone and follow 4-H transportation policy which can be found at the following linkhttp://4h.ucanr.edu/Resources/Policies/Chapter11/

**This is an event that members are welcome to attend but is not covered by San Benito County Council Funding.

7. Holiday Dinner Information and Flyer

The All-Stars are busily planning Holiday Dinner and they have given me the attached flyer to send to you- So save the date and RSVP to your Club Leader!

When: Sunday December 7th at 5pm

Where: Veterans Building 

What to Bring: *Clubs should provide a gift basket to be used as a door prize as well as table decorations for the contest

*Families should bring one unused toy, one canned food donation per person, and a desert that can be shared!

Please remember to RSVP to Your Club Leader by next Wednesday December 3rd! Club Leaders should share this information with me via email at so that we can plan on the correct number of tables and make sure there is food for everyone!

8. Fair Eligibility Deadline in December!

The enrollment deadline to be eligible to show livestock in the 2014 fairs will be Friday, December 19th. This means that if you would like to add a livestock project your enrollment update form is due to the office with the required signatures by 5pm, please turn in the originals.

9. Holiday Office Hours and Closure Dates

The office will be closed Thursday November 27th and 28th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

I wanted to notify everyone regarding the UCCE Winter Holiday and Curtailment schedule so that you can plan ahead.

As in previous years, UC campuses and offices will be closed for an extended period at the end of the calendar year in order to realize cost savings through reduced energy use and to accommodate  employee vacation.

The UCCE Office in San Benito County will be closed Wednesday December 24th through Thursday, January 1st. As such, please note the following changes to our regular Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday office hours before and after the holiday closure:

The office will be open and additional day the week before the closure, on Monday December 15th from 9am-5pm.

In January the office will be open all week from Monday the 5th through Friday the 9th from 9am-5pm. 

Please remember that the enrollment for deadline to show in the 2014 fairs will be Friday the 19th.
